Fan Fiction Definition (Wikepedia.org)
"Fan fiction (also spelled fanfiction and commonly abbreviated to fanfic or fic when used in a singular sense) is fiction written by people who enjoy a film, novel, television show or other media work, using the characters and situations developed in it and developing new plots in which to use these characters."

General - common Stargate story. / ganz gewöhnliche Stargate Geschichte.
Alternate Universe - Taking the characters from the original setting of their world, and placing them into one that works a little differently. You use the characters, but not the universe. / Alternative Universen. Die Charakter werden aus ihrer gewohnten Umgebung herausgelöst und in eine neue Umgebung gesteckt. Beispielsweise das Weglassen wichtiger Begebenheiten, wie der Tod eines Hauptcharakters. Motto: was wäre gewesen, wenn das nicht passiert wäre oder etwas anderes gelaufen wäre?
Action - Filled with physical conflict, with focus on describing movements-- particularly in battle or competition. / Action, Physische Konflikte, Kämpfe, u.ä.
Adventure - Characters going on a bold and uncertain quest, leaving behind the safety and comforts of home. / Der oder die Charaktere gehen auf eine ungewisse Reise, müssen Abenteuer bestehen ehe sie heil zurückkehren können.
Angst - Focusing on anxiety that leaves the character full of doubt and uncertainty. / Angst, Verzweiflung, seelischen Konflikt einer der Hauptpersonen.
Character Death (or "wallows") - this story involves one of the charaters perishing, and the others' reaction. / Tod eines (Haupt)charakters und die Reaktion der anderen Personen darauf.
Continuation - Following the events of the original canon story. Characters, world, and history are all the same as presented in the series that the fan fiction is based on. / Handlungsbogen der Originalserie wird fortgeführt. Auf Basis der Seriengeschehnisse werden die Ereignisse zuküftiger Folgen dargestellt.
Crossover - Involving two or more separate and distinct series or movies into one story. Take the characters of one universe, and have them team up with the characters of another universe. For example bringing Mulder und Scully to the Cheyenne Mountain. / Eine Story, die andere Serien anschneidet, wie z.B. "Startrek", "Akte X", "Xena" usw. Mulder und Scully treffen auf SG-1 o.ä.
Drama - Focus on conflicting elements to bring forth a stronger imagery, particularly in use of generating emotional reaction through demonstration of contrasts. / Hervorhebung von mehr oder weniger schweren (emotionalen) Konflikten und der Reaktionen darauf. Widerstrebende Elemente. Teilweise mit tragischem Ausgang der Geschichte.
Get-em or Get stories (varients of hurt/comfort)- Great deal of pain, little comfort. / Variation von Hurt/Comfort. Mehr Schmerz, weniger Komfort.
Horror - Designed to frighten and/or sicken the reader. Often filled with blood and gore using an enemy who commits inhuman acts of violence. / Geschichten, die den Leser erschrecken und/oder krank machen. Oftmals mit Blut und Brutalität gespickt. Unhumane und teilweise extreme Gewaltakte/Gewalttätigkeiten.
Humour - some sort of funny story e.g. Comedy. / Humor, komische Situationen
Hurt/Comfort - Probably the most common fanfic out there. Basic idea is to take one of the heroes, beat the tar out of him/her, rescue him/her, and have one or more of the hero's friends offer comfort, deepening the relationship (keeping at deep friendship, usually, but slash or straight romance is also very common). / Seelische und/oder körperliche Verletzungen eines oder mehrerer Charaktere. Missing Scenes - Often short, these stories are scenes that seem to be missing from the series episodes, but could have happened. / oftmals kurze Stories, die fehlende Szenen in der Serie ausfüllen und beschreiben, zum Beispiel den Übergang von einer Episode in die nächste. Tenor: Diese Geschichten könnten tatsächlich stattgefunden haben, wurden aber nicht gezeigt.
Parody - parody is a form of satire that imitates another work of art in order to ridicule it. / als eine Form der Satire imitiert die Parodie ein Verhalten und stellt es bsp. übertrieben dar, um es ins lächerliche zu ziehen
Romance - Idealization of love and the attraction of the heart. / Romanze, Romantik
Other - That which doesn't fall into the categories outlined above. / Alles, was in keine andere der hier genannten Kategorien passt.
Slash - A homosexual pairing, can be male/male or female/female. / Stories mit romantischem homosexuellem Inhalt (als Paar z.B. Jack und Daniel). Kann aber auch Femslash sein.
First Time - The most common type of Romantic fanfic. The characters discover their attraction to one another and initiate a sexual relationship. / Die erste Romanze/Liebschaft, die zu einer sexuellen Beziehung führt.
